E3 - Pursuing Holiness and Finding Freedom

Holiness, righteousness, godliness…. these are words you might not always hear in the Christian faith. But why? What is it about these words that makes us avoid addressing them?

Nathan talks with Chris and Corey about how we can connect holiness with freedom. Together we take a journey and talk about how we can position our hearts with the Father. We discuss how we are invited to a family, how God sees us as his favorite, and ways that we can deepen our intimacy with God and therefore become more like God.

We discover a pure joy in the pursuit of holiness.

“If holiness is a mold of legalistic form-fitting behaviors then we are all in competition to be the most holy. But if holiness is perfection of God’s creation than none of us are in competition. Then my pursuit is no longer the things of holiness but it is the one who perfects my holiness.”

E2 - Drummers Stewarding Heart & Craft (pt 2)

Nathan, Corey & Chris with the second part to the conversation about how drumming and musicianship relates to meaningful worship. This second part hones in on more challenging questions like “what is an emotional high” and “when are emotions helpful in worship.”

In 1 Corinthians Paul presents a case for love above all. Emotions can be throw into a larger bucket of expressions of the Holy Spirit and lets be honest, sensations of God are beautiful but can easily distract us from what truly matters. In 1 Corinthians 12:31 (NLT) Pauls writes, “So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts, but now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.” From there Paul writes one of the most famous chapters of all, “Love is patient and kind.”

Our conclusion is that knowing and obeying the one true God is the most important thing. The stewardship of our music can be an incredible tool to bring others closer to a deep revelation of the truth of the gospel.

E1 - Drummers Stewarding Heart and Craft in Worship (Part 1)

Nathan, Corey, & Chris talk about how to effectively drum in a worship environment. Our conversation takes us from basics of approaching drums in a set to deeper expressions of emotion and meaning in worship. We share our thoughts on emotionalism, particularly in relation to music and singing. What can we do as musicians and artists to help people connect to truth and presence?

When it comes to artistry, what is an appropriate balance of head and heart?

We don’t want our heart to be so moved that our craft gets out of control, but we don’t want our craft to limit our ability to perfectly express the heart.

Join us as we explore perspectives of coming into the throne room through the gift of music and creativity. As always feel free to email us with your thoughts and comments. Thanks for being a part of community!
